The end of the year is a time to look back at a lot of things in your life. Among those should be your auto insurance policy.
When was the last time you really looked at your auto insurance policy and what it covered? Do you need all the coverage in your policy? Are there some coverage options you should have but don’t? This is a good time to take note of what you have in effect and make sure it is the right policy for you.
Deductible
The first thing you should look at on your car insurance is just how much of a deductible you have in place. The general rule of thumb is to make sure you have as high of a deductible as you are comfortable with. The higher your deductible for each claim you file, the lower your monthly premiums will be on your auto insurance. At the same time, you want to make sure that the deductible you have in place will be one that you can afford to pay if you have to.
Comprehensive Coverage
A lot of people have full coverage on their car to replace it were it destroyed in an accident. When you first get a car that’s a good idea, but over time your car loses it’s value and you may still be paying a fortune to insure it at its full amount. Find out how much coverage you have in this area and make sure it makes sense.
Comparison Shopping
While you may be accustomed to your current bill for auto insurance coming from one company, the same old same old is not always the best thing. At least once a year you should do a little comparison-shopping to see if you are getting the best deal on auto insurance.
The easiest way to do this is to use an insurance broker site where you enter all of your information once, and then quotes from a number of auto insurance companies are sent to you letting you know the types of coverage you can get and the price for those policies.
While you may find out the plan you have is the best for you, it is also possible something better has come along and that you can get the same (or better) coverage for the same (or lower) monthly fee.
